Summary

Although the total score is good for this dish, the flavor is a mixed bag. The taste of the shrimp and the onions were both fantastic. But the bland grits brought the whole flavor aspect down a big notch.

Keep in mind that Gail and I both grew up on grits and we are very fond of them. But I suppose we are used to having lots of butter in our grits, and using more butter in them for this dish might have saved the day. As it was, the blandness of the grits – even with a bunch of parmesan cheese in it – stood out. That’s a shame too, because the dish probably would have rocked if the blandness hadn’t been there.

Also, after eating the meal, I was ready for some real food. It felt like we’d just had an appetizer. Definitely not enough food for a dinner in this one.

Have to commend the ease of prep and cleanup on this one though, as it was super simple and quick.

Oh! And inside the box was a Home Chef recipe binder. I guess since this was the first box that I fully paid for (I had a discount on the first box), they sent the binder in this one. That was a nice surprise.
