Tasty In Every Bite
Let’s be honest. I mostly tried this meal kit because it had a funny name. Bibimbap, as I found out from Googling it, is pronounced either “bee-bim-bap” or “bee-bim-bop”. It is a mixed rice dish with veggies and meat. I walked around saying bibimbap, bibimbap, bibimbap all afternoon because it was fun to say. I’m weird that way. Get over it.
Hello Fresh needs to change their prep time estimate on this recipe card. The prep time for this took a lot longer than I expected, and generally speaking, I can usually prep things in the estimated amount of time. (These days…it used to take me a lot longer).
Other than the unexpectedly long prep time, I have no complaints. This would be good comfort food. The various flavors come together nicely. Gail said that she experienced different flavors in every bite. I thought there were nice juxtapositions of flavors with the crispy, savory beef mingling with the sharp marinated shallots, the earthy mushrooms, the sweet carrots, tender zucchini, and the sweet and salty soy/sugar sauce.
All around goodness. Just count on a lengthier process than the recipe card says.
Glance through the recipe instructions before you begin. Some recipes ask you to chop veggies in the middle of the process, usually while something else is cooking on the stove. I recommend ignoring those instructions. Instead, prep all your veggies before you do anything else. (You can preheat your oven during this time). If you are anything like me, trying to chop vegetables while watching over the cooking process will usually end up with overcooked or burned food, or even knicked fingers.
