Summary

If the salad had been better, this would have been a 5 star meal kit. But the Dill Cucumber and Spinach Salad was just okay, so that brought the overall score down. The ravioli was very good though, so the meal kit get a very nice score overall.

Prep Work – Easy Breezy

Prepping for this meal kit couldn’t get too much easier, so big win there!

Cleanup – Minimal

Very little cleanup to do after this meal, so there’s another big win!

What Abut the Taste?

We loved the ravioli. I like the sweet caramelized onions that offset the heavy ricotta of the ravioli. Gail was mostly just all in for the ricotta and didn’t care what might offset it. She could do with or without the onions and be just as happy. We could have both just ignored the salad and been fine, but it was okay. Edible…but there was nothing exciting about the salad.

Our First Martha and Marley Spoon Meal Kit

Ok, this is one of the more important points. We tried Martha Stewart’s Marley Spoon meal kit for the first time. Unboxing went well. I was happy to see ingredients in paper bags, but I was a little confused as to why they chose to keep some of the ingredients outside of the meal kit bags. Garlic for example…why not just include it in the meal’s paper bag? The same issue with the sour cream. Why make me figure out which meal these things are for, when you could have just put them in the proper bags? But that’s a minor detail.

All in all, this service holds some promise. It’s on par with the mid-tier services, meaning it’s about the same cost as Hello Fresh, unlike Sun Basket and Green Chef, which are both in the higher-priced “premium” tier. That means that if the next two meals I cook this week, are also very good and very easy, I’ll consider using this service on a more long-term basis. But Martha has to keep impressing me, or she’ll be kicked to the curb.
