Summary

Speedy is the first word in the name of this dish for good reason. This was super quick to make, simple to prepare, as well as fast and easy to clean up. That alone is reason to cheer, but of course, it’s really all about the flavor. The flavor doesn’t disappoint.

I’ve grown fond of the smoky seasoning packet that Hello Fresh occasionally includes in its southwestern-style meal kits. It’s not hot, which is great. It’s flavorful, but not overwhelming like so many taco-style seasoning packs tend to be. I don’t like those kinds of overbearing seasoning mixes, but the Hello Fresh seasoning packet is more subtle. That means the rest of the ingredients each get their share of attention in the mix of flavors, which is the way it should be.

In the case of these fajitas, the sweetness of the sauteed peppers and onions combine perfectly with the smokiness of the seasoning. Add the slight tanginess of the lime crema and the result is just the way it should be.

The only downside was the fact that the minute steak was a little tough on the ends, as it was slightly more cooked than the rest of the meat. That small fault earned it a little ding in the flavor score, but it isn’t enough to really complain about. All in all, this was a great-tasting meal. Better than many I’ve purchased in restaurants, in fact.

Tip

Glance through the recipe instructions before you begin. Some recipes ask you to chop veggies in the middle of the process, usually while something else is cooking on the stove. I recommend ignoring those instructions. Instead, prep all your veggies before you do anything else. (You can preheat your oven during this time). If you are anything like me, trying to chop vegetables while watching over the cooking process will usually end up with overcooked or burned food, or even knicked fingers.
