A Thelma and Louise Kinda Gal

I often think about who I am, deep inside. Of course, there isn’t one simple answer to that. We’re all a mishmash of all sorts of things. But lately, life’s way of messing with me has proved to me what I’ve suspected in the past. I’m a Thelma and Louise kinda gal.

I’m Louise, in case you were wondering. (The one with the gun in the clip below).

I’m a loyal protector by nature. Well, I say “by nature”, but honestly, it might just be all of the circumstances of my life that molded me into one. I don’t know. I’m not so interested in the reason why. At this point in my life, I just am. And make note of that “loyal” part. It’s a pretty big piece of my whole persona, just as it was in the movie.

So yeah, I would definitely be a Louise to a Thelma. But it’s not just the protective part of Louise that I identify with. It’s the “let’s get the hell out of ‘Dreary Town’ and have some dang adventures” part as well.

And I’ve had those adventures in my life. Just up and go on a whim! I’d like to think there will be at least one more before the final “road trip” of life.

So what got me thinking about all of this today? Well, as I mentioned, life has messed with me lately, putting me into Thelma and Louise situations. But today, specifically, I watched the new Beyoncé / Miley Cyrus collaboration on Beyoncé’s new Cowboy Carter album. It has that same Thelma and Louise vibe but without the trouble that comes with it.

I’ll be your shotgun rider, till the day I die.

Smoke out the window, flying down the 405.

This, y’all. This. This has basically always been my dream life. I don’t know what that says about me, but this is it.

  • Adventure.
  • Freedom.
  • Protector.
  • Loyal.

I’ve experienced all of this a few times in my life, but adulting got in the way of it being more than a passing thing.

If I had my way, it would no longer be a passing thing. It would play out this way, till the day I die.
