Today’s Bloganuary prompt is:
Describe the happiest day of your life.
October. Just a few months after Obergefell v. Hodges, requiring states to license and recognize same-sex marriage, I married the woman of my dreams. And that wedding…oh let me assure you, we definitely did it OUR WAY.
We’re old hippies at heart, you see. We already had our own hand-painted hippie van. So we just took that motif a little further and had a full-blown hippie wedding. Here’s how it all went down.
We rented a house on a river where the ceremony would take place, and we stayed there for our honeymoon weekend. Our family was told to wear hippie-style clothing, so they had some idea of what might happen, but they had no idea how far we’d go.
When the 60’s playlist music started, Gail drove the van that had been hidden behind the house, around into the yard. She then ran around the van, flung open the van door, and escorted me out. We then danced to 60’s songs through the yard and up onto the outdoor stage. One of our daughters performed the ceremony, and we all celebrated after.
That’s the words that describe the event, but they certainly don’t convey the depth of emotion from that day. Perhaps some of these photos will help. If you saw the 100+ photos, you’d see their faces in every emotional state; one moment crying, another grinning, back and forth, from one emotion to another. But it all added up to one thing. Pure Joy.
Oh, and notice our wedding cake? It was the most delicious cake ball cake in the history of cake ball cakes! Plus, it was so pretty!
