What is a song or poem that speaks to you and why?

I’m going to turn this one around just a little. I’m not going to share a song that speaks TO me. Instead, I’m going to share a song that speaks FOR me.

Let me explain.

In yesterday’s post, I shared that I like to give special, well-thought-out gifts from time to time to the people I love. As it happens, I gave one of those kinds of gifts to my wife this Christmas. And discussing that gift is ideal for today’s writing prompt.

For Christmas, I gave my wife her very own song.

I used a wonderful service called Songfinch to hire a professional singer/songwriter to write a song for and about my wife.

• I told them our story.
• I gave them a few important details about my wife.
• And in return, I received a beautiful, unique song written just for her.

That song is even on Spotify! How cool is that?

I played the song as a surprise on Christmas Day with the whole family gathered round. It didn’t take long for her to realize that this song was specifically for her, but she kept asking, “how did you do this” throughout the playing of it  By the end of the song, she, I, our kids, and grandkids were fighting back tears. When one of our grandsons said, with gusto, “That’s a really good song!”, I knew it was a winner.
